Ferguson Protestors Blast Al Sharpton for DC March, While #MillionsMarchNYC successfully brought over 50,000 protestors together for Ferguson and the #BlackLivesMatter movement this weekend, little word came out of the Washington DC march that happened on the same day, until now. Ferguson Protestors Blast Al Sharpton and his National Action Network (NAN), the face and organizers of the DC march, after they reportedly cut off the mics while Ferguson youth who’ve been leading the protests “from the beginning” were speaking. Twitter immediately blew up, going on to cite more DC march incidents including a questionable “VIP” section at the march, as well as the problem of “leaders” in what’s now a new generation of resistance.

Ferguson Protestors Blast Al Sharpton for DC March;

The controversy brings up an old and current conflict. Are figure-heads holding movements back? Is it time for leaders like Al Sharpton to have a seat? Many say YES.

Johnetta Elzie, the young lady who was cut off, eventually got to speak for a few seconds (after some strong “Let Them Speak!” chants), letting off anger about the neglect of young protestors. She was among those tear-gassed in Ferguson when the non-indictment reaction first popped off, and many of the protests across the country have since been lead by young people. Ferguson Protestors Blast Al Sharpton further by reportedly calling the DC march effort by Al Sharpton “corporate,” lacking the passion of grassroots rallies around the country.

Not the first Al Sharpton leadership controversy, a medium ground exists if “old guard” leaders work WITH the “new guard” to keep the momentum of movements like #BlackLivesMatter going. While Ferguson Protestors Blast Al Sharpton and have largely lost support for him and NAN, Ferguson and Eric Garner sparks are now the most active signs of revolution we’ve seen in America in years. Let’s not lose that!

And That’s Ferguson Protestors Blast Al Sharpton for DC March!
