Cartoon Network’s “Adult Swim” syndicate is gearing up for a new musical called “The Wizard of Watts,” an hour long film spin-off of the ‘Black Dynamite’ series and movie of the same name. Notable Hip Hop and entertainment artists are set including the likes of Tyler Creator, Erykah Badu and More for the Black Dynamite Musical.
It’s recently been announced that “The Wizard of Watts” movie, (premiering January 10th at 10:30PM ET/PT) has lined up Tyler Creator, Erykah Badu and More for the Black Dynamite Musical. Also associated is the too funny J.B. Smoove, who you might remember among a slew other shows and TV projects did the #StayMelo Jordan commercial earlier this year.
If you didn’t know, Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim brand has a huge following, and has furthered the artistic expression and fan base of a lot of Hip Hop, sports and entertainment figures. It was earlier this year that Revolt TV sat down with Adult Swim’s VP of On-Air, James Demarco, to discuss their impact on changing the game for marketing new artists. Bringing it full circle, James Demarco is also responsible for Odd Future’s “Loiter Squad.”
As for Tyler Creator, Erykah Badu and More for the Black Dynamite Musical, the project is an exercise in #facts with hilarious social commentary which is a staple for the professionals involved. Carl Jones, who directed and co-wrote “Black Dynamite” and co-produced “The Boondocks,” an originally infamous series, is staying on as a comedy writer.
“The film follows Black Dynamite and his goons through the 1970s as they try to keep ninjas—Bill Cosby, Richard Nixon and a young Michael Jackson—from terrorizing the city. When Black Dynamite tries to take a day off from policing the city, mayhem ensues.”
Sounds hella creative, there’s really no way of imagining what the addition of Tyler Creator, Erykah Badu and More for the Black Dynamite Musical will look like. None the less, the aim of his writing Carl Jones says, is to make us laugh, evoke thought, and inspire dialogue. Will you be tuning in???
