The Struggle: Another MTA Fare Hike

Over six million New York City and Long Island commuters let out a collective groan with the news that the MTA Approves A March Fare Hike: The Struggle Is Real.

The CEO of the MTA is urging riders to be reminded that fare hikes bring an “increase in service and higher quality” as the MTA Approves A March Fare Hike: The Struggle Is Real. Most feel the same was said about the last fare hike, and improvements have since been visible but not much to rave about. Still, riders are pissed about the added shakedown commencing with every purchase and swipe for MTA subways, buses and the LIRR.

“The board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority voted on Thursday to raise the base fare on subways and buses by a quarter, to $2.75, and the cost of a 30-day MetroCard by $4.50, to $116.50.”

MTA Approves A March Fare Hike: The Struggle Is Real as the cost of handling your business through public transportation goes up again. Sources note the fare hike will hit lower income neighborhoods harder than anything. It was already the case for many that buying an unlimited-ride or a value-added Metrocard came with some serious decision making.–Many had already been used to ‘asking for a swipe’ as a reflex more than a last resort (real talk!).

But seriously, this is in all seriousness that the MTA Approves A March Fare Hike: The Struggle Is Real. This is also in addition to hikes on bridge and tunnel tolls for EZ-Pass and cash customers. What makes NYC amazing is what also makes it terrible at times, case in point the city runs on mass transit 24/7, so any changes are direct hits to the population. The Department of Transportation’s Commissioner told press the hike “does the least damage to the largest number of folks.” –mmm, doesn’t sound too reassuring does it?

Are you unaffected or are you already starting to re-examine some things, perhaps, more spring walks???
