Eddie Murphy Returns to SNL

It’s been 31 years and now Eddie Murphy Returns to SNL for First Time Since 1984 after leaving the iconic show, reconnecting to his legendary run AND rolling over the major beef that stopped him from ever coming back!!!

Eddie Murphy Returns to SNL for First Time Since 1984 to participate in the king of late night comedy sketch shows Saturday Night Live’s 40th Anniversary airing February 15, 2015 on NBC. The show which helped make him a mega-star, hasn’t seen him since December 15, 1984–his blanket answer being that “it just never worked out where the timing was right for me to do it.”

He’s cool with a lot of his old co-stars now, but the real raw situation that developed after he left never really had a happy ending. Eddie Murphy Returns to SNL for First Time Since 1984 and if you’re too young to know, can’t remember–or never knew, Eddie’s relationship with SNL hit a bad note. To the point where the show started doing parodies of him that he didn’t think were too funny:

“[T]hey were sh*tty to me on ‘Saturday Night Live’ a couple of times after I’d left the show. They said some sh*tty things,” Murphy said in an interview with Rolling Stone in 2011. “There was that David Spade sketch. I made a stink about it, it became part of the folklore. What really irritated me about it at the time was that it was a career shot. It was like, ‘Hey, come on, man, it’s one thing for you guys to do a joke about some movie of mine, but my career? I’m one of you guys. How many people have come off this show whose careers really are f*cked up, and you guys are sh*tting on me?’ And you know every joke has to go through all the producers, and ultimately, you know Lorne or whoever says, [Lorne Michaels voice] ‘OK, it’s OK to make this career crack.'”

Damn, definitely sounds shady as Eddie Murphy Returns to SNL for First Time Since 1984. Big ups to him for being bigger than the beef, they definitely can’t run an anniversary show without at least some of his classic clips! And being irreplaceable if not unforgettable–that’s the stuff legends are made of.
