A press conference with Michael Brown’s family and attorneys announced the civil suit against the city of Ferguson and Darren Wilson. The announcement comes a day after the Justice Department said it would not file federal charges against the former Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson, who shot Michael Brown, who was the unarmed, to death.

Anthony Gray, one of the family’s attorneys, said “Obviously, we disagree with those findings…Officer Darren Wilson did not have to shoot and kill Mike Brown Jr. in broad daylight… he had other options available to him.” Darryl Parks, the lawyer of Brown’s parents, said the family did not speak during the announcement but they agreed with the DOJ’s separate report that found systemic racial discrimination in the Ferguson police department. He says, “If nothing else, (it) clearly lays out why this family had such distrust for law enforcement and this agency, and you clearly see it now from the findings the DOJ has made public.” He also states that the civil case, which will be filed “soon,” will paint a “more accurate” picture of what happened on the day Michael Brown was killed.
