Last night video surfaced and went viral of a chapter of the fraternity Sigma Alpha Epilson (SAE) at the University of Oklahoma singing a racist chant.  The video shows a group of white students on a bus singing “There will never be a ni**** in SAE. You can hang him from a tree, but he can never sign with me.”  As the video spread, so did the outrage.  Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s national chapter shut down the Oklahoma chapter Sunday night, suspended all of the chapter’s members and threatened to remove those responsible from the fraternity for life.  OU’s president David Boren denounced the behavior and the students were escorted from their fraternity house under heavy security.  Not only have many students and activists spoken up, members of the OU Sooners football team took a stand as well.

Many people were extremely upset about the video and feared the school would now be known for the racist few.  There was also fear that star recruits would not sign with the Sooners fearing association with the school and possibility of racism still existing there.

The OU Sooners football players along with their head coach Bob Stoops, joined the OU South Oval demonstration this morning.  They also were among the many students who spoke out last night as news crews descended on the campus.  OU football player Erik Striker said “There’s an institutional breakdown when it comes to minority relations here at the University.  Plus there’s been some issues as athletes that we have that we feel have not been addressed.”  When asked what are some of those issues, Striker declined to answer anymore questions.
