Mexican wrestling lost one of it’s brightest stars when Perro Aguayo Jr died in the ring last night in a match against former WWE star, Rey Mysterio Jr. The cause of death is being reported as cerival spine trauma, after possibly the ropes snapped his neck. Aguayo Jr was just 35 years old and a star in the Mexican wrestling circuit.

According to reports, Aguayo Jr had taken a couple shots to the back and neck area as part of the match as Rey Mysterio was setting him up for the “619” (his finishing move). As Aguayo lay on the ropes Mysterio was about to hit him with the move but noticed something wasn’t right and didn’t do it. When Aguayo fell down to basically get in position for Mysterio’s move, the ropes may have whiplashed him, causing spinal damage.

The wrestlers and ref clearly knew something was wrong, they just didn’t realize at the time how bad it was. Odds are they just assumed he was knocked out. Video surfaced of the incident and of Aguayo being removed on a stretcher.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Aguayo Jr and his family.
