Apple Watch is being sold for $349+ but cost $84 to make ?

According to HIS, the Apple Watch cost $84 to make but sells for $349, the teardown shows a bill of materials of $81.20 with the cost of production rising to $83.70. If this is true, the Apple Watch has the lowest ration of hardware cost to retail price compared to any other Apple product. This week Apple’s CEO Tim cook slammed third-party firms that consistently provides sketchy bill of materials breakdown for new Apple products saying, “I’ve never seen one that’s even close to accurate,”

Personally, this isn’t a surprise; there is a research, marketing, development and manufacturing team that needs to get paid. As the watch cost $349, I wouldn’t expect it to have no where near $300 worth of technology. You still get your apps, calls and messages while having a fashionable watch on your wrist.

The breakdown is $20.50 for the touchscreen module, $10.20 for the processor, $9.00 for the box, $7.20 for the memory, $3.00 for the sensors, $5.50 for the user interface and $5.50 for the power management, for the full breakdown check the photo above.
