Police are investigating the death of a man that took place in Queens, NY late last night. According to reports an off-duty corrections officer shot and killed a man who was attempting to carry out a robbery. Hit the jump for more.

Police have not yet released the names of the corrections officer or the man who was killed. What police do know is a man walked up to a group of men standing around their motorcycles. He pointed a gun at the group, demanding that they hand over the keys for the bikes.

An off-duty corrections officer shot the man. When police arrived at the scene the man was laid out on the sidewalk with a gun shot wound to the head. The incident took place at Rockaway Boulevard and 95th Avenue around 10:30PM.

The wounded man was taken to Jamaica Hospital where he later died. Police did uncover a gun at the scene that is said to belong to the dead man.
