The Lakers made a big splash last night by drafting D’Angelo Russell with the second pick when many thought they would take Duke’s Jahlil Okafor. While Lakers fans seemed to love that pick, it was another pick they made later in the first round that is causing a bit of a stir.

The Lakers selected Larry Nance Jr with the 27th overall pick, but he might have some explaining to do to Kobe, IF Kobe decides to even acknowledge him.

Nance made sure to delete a tweet where he called Kobe a rapist, but like everything on the internet, once it’s there, it’s there forever one way or another. Now to be fair, at the time when Nance tweeted that he was 19 years old back in 2012. None of us wants to have all the idiotic things we said (and did) at 19 dragged out into the public square for discussion so in the bigger picture this isn’t a big deal.

However, Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak basically said they are ok with the tweet, they know it’s nothing major, but he admitted that Nance will have to work out any awkwardness with Kobe himself. In case you forgot somehow, Kobe was charged with rape back in 2003 in Colorado. The criminal case was dismissed when the accuser refused to testify at the trial. The victim later filed a civil suit against Kobe, which was settled out of court and included Kobe publicly apologizing to the woman, but he did not admit guilt.

Check out the gallery for the tweet from Nance Jr. Good Luck being friends with Kobe.
