Back in May, A$AP Rocky sat down with a panel from the Red Bull Music Academy. During the interview which was recently released, the rapper shared his views on the Atlanta rap scene and the rappers it produces today. Rocky was highly critical of Atlanta rappers and did not hold back his perspective of them.

Hit the jump to see exactly what he had to say.

A$AP Rocky started off admitting that a lot of great music has come from the A, however he did say that he feels a lot of the rapper sound the same. He said, “all them n***as sound the same.” To be clear about what he meant by ‘sound the same,’ he added, “There are a few dudes who have they own thing, and they killing it. I’m not saying all Atlanta rappers sound the same. But for the most part they all have similar cadences, flows, and deliveries, and they even recycle the same lyrics.”

Ouch!

He continued his clarification trying to be clear that his comments were not shady or a dis towards any one particular. He said,

“I gotta just say it. This ain’t dissing nobody, but I don’t understand how Future can make a song like “Sh*t.” Then this n*gga, I forget his name… You make “OG Bobby Johnson” and it’s like, “head shot, head shot, hit them with the…” It’s the same thing Future’s saying. And we allowed that.”

I mean he may have a point there, however A$AP did single out one rapper to say that he ‘deserves more.’ When talking about his friend Trinidad James, A$AP said,

“This kid comes out he has the biggest single and where is he now? Trinidad James is a very good person. He’s a dear friend of mine. I think he deserves a lot more. I think he works hard. To be honest, I can’t say he sounds like other n****s. Ima be honest with you. But where is he now? That single s**t don’t mean nothing.”

As far as A$AP Rocky goes, he let us know that he’s here for the long haul and that singles and ‘one hit wonders’ are not what he has planned in his future. He said, “It’s a part of the game. You gotta ask yourself, ‘Do you wanna just make singles or do you wanna make history?’ And y’all already know what I’m trying to make.”
