After calling out Drake during his Twitter rant yesterday, Toronto politician Norm Kelly jumped in on the action to let Meek Mill know he is no longer welcome in Canada. Meek fired back at the Councillor calling him a thug, but according to Kelly, Meek’s words don’t bother him.

Following the incident Norm Kelly did a interview explaining why he jumped in on the beef and his current feeling on Meek. Read more after the jump.

Norm Kelly sat down for an interview with Noisey and let people in on just why he came to Drake’s defense so quickly. According to Kelly he hasn’t ever heard Meek’s musuic but was offended that he attacked a citizen and hero of Toronto. He said, “I haven’t heard his music and I don’t have a favourite song. What attracted my attention was that he attacked a guy who’s not only a Canadian hero, but really a prominent citizen of Toronto.”

When asked about how he felt about Meek calling him a thug he said, “I’ve been in politics for 30 years, stuff like that just rolls off my back.”

During the interview Kelly was reminded the root of the beef, between Toronto’s golden boy and Meek Mill, was the fact that Drake may not write all his own raps. When asked if he writes his own tweets, Kelly said, “I do, but I’ve told everyone that I steal shamelessly from everybody. If you say something to me that gets me thinking, or you’re close to me and I throw them at you and listen to your response, i might use that. But in the end, yeah, I do. It’s been very liberating.”

As far as Drake’s collection of music, Kelly isn’t too familiar with that either but he did say that he’s not wrong for coming to his defense. “Well I know Drake less through his music than by his participation in the life of the city. I follow basketball and last year when I had the privilege of acting as the de facto Mayor of Toronto, I got closer to the Raptors than I had been previously. Drake has identified with that team, and has identified internationally with Toronto. You know, The 6. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for one Torontonian to come to the defence of another.”
