After the last fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao went down, it was obvious that Pacquiao would want a rematch. Following his shoulder repair, Pac-Man says he is open to fighting Money May at some point in 2016.
After the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight did not live up to viewer expectations, it has been questioned whether or not fans even want to watch a rematch between the two. As always, Mayweather stuck to his defensive style of fighting and that ultimately left many fans upset. WHY? I have no idea because Floyd has never been one to get into a slugfest with an opponent.
Mayweather is set to fight Andre Berto next month in what will be his 49th and final fight according to him. It does not take a genius to know that Floyd wants to be known as the greatest fighter ever, and getting to that 50-0 mark would definitely solidify that. It seems that Pac-Man is aware of this as well because he is talking like he knows Floyd is not going to retire.
In an interview Manny said, “I’d like to concentrate my efforts on working as a politician this year, and want to fight Mayweather in a rematch. I’ll be ready for that mentally and physically next year. I’ll show a better performance against him than in the first encounter,” and it just seems that he knows he already has the rematch locked in. The big question, however, is does Floyd want to even give him the fight?
Floyd and Manny broke all types of records as far as viewership and monetary intake goes when it came to their first fight and with a rematch, many believe the result–as far as numbers go–will not live up to those records that were made in the first fight. However, if we are strictly talking about Boxing, it makes sense for a Mayweather-Pacquiao II to go down. The fight seemed fairly close despite it seeming like Manny was making excuses for his loss by using his shoulder injury as a bail out.
On those grounds, though, it seems like Floyd lost the respect that he did have for Manny after he made those shoulder comments. During the fight, Manny truly didn’t show any signs of being injured. So, how likely is a Mayweather-Pacquiao II?
