Ice Cube, as well as F. Gary Gray and the rest of the cast, has been promoting the hell out of his latest feature film Straight Outta Compton. Since the N.W.A. biopic has had fans revisiting their debut album, Cube felt obliged to clear up some misconceptions some may have about the album, especially the title track. Ice Cube proved that the apparent “all-knowing” annotators on Rap Genius really have no clue what N.W.A. said on “Straight Outta Compton.” With only a few days left before the film’s worldwide release, Cube sat down with Vanity Fair to discuss what his handcrafted lyrics really meant. During their chat, Cube was asked to break down his lyrics in the title track of N.W.A.’s debut release Straight Outta Compton.
Cube admits that there are some annotations that are absolutely, 100% correct. However, there were several interpretations that were completely off. It really makes you wonder if any annotation on Genius is authentic. Whoever made the wrong interpretations must feel wack now.
