The Guardian reports, the teen girl was followed to a bathroom stall where she was allegedly raped in a cubicle on the night of 7 August. Last week, Mbuso was arrested after the alleged victim decided to go through with the case. She reported the crime seven days after the incident; August 14.

Mbuso is descended from the first of Mandela’s three wives, Evelyn Mase, and received $300,000 in his grandfather’s will.

Reports also suggest that a bodyguard for Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, ex-wife of the late president, tried to interfere in the situation. “That was never brought to our attention nor reported,” said police spokeswoman, Brigadier Mashadi Selepe.

No one in the bar is claiming to have seen anything. Yaw Dwomoh, the owner of Mammas Shebeen, however, is ready and willing to supply any needed support. “We would cooperate, we have eight cameras in the restaurant, but the problem is that they only hold 120 hours, so by now they have been erased.”

Monday, August 17, Mbuso appeared in court for the charges and was scheduled to return on Friday for a bail hearing. The grandson of the prominent leader, who is still in custody, will be treated to less nor better than any other prisoner, according to Selepe. “All the rights of suspects are upheld during their investigation and lawful custody,” she says.
