In the last couple of days, Dr. Dre has made headlines for his record breaking release for the film ‘Straight Outta Compton’ but he has also found himself in the spotlight after a Dee Barnes pointed out that her and another woman’s stories went untold. After Barnes pointed that out and Dre received backlash from different angles, he has reached out to them to publicly apologize.

Dee Barnes wrote a piece giving her reflections on the film and if she thought it was pretty accurate. In that piece, Barnes talks about how she was assaulted by Dre after doing an interview with Cube, that unfortunately seemed to attack Dre. Barnes went into detail about the assault where she talked about how Dre threw her through a wall a stomped on her, ultimately causing injuries which she still suffers from today.

Naturally, her take on the old NWA caused some attention to be drawn to Dre and many were even slandering him because of it. Giving Dre the benefit of the doubt, these assaults that took place on the bhalf of Dee Barnes and another named woman named Michel’le have already been knowledge that the public was aware of. The issue, Barnes says, is that those stories were not told in the recent film.

In an statement Dre Says:

Twenty-five years ago I was a young man drinking too much and in over my head with no real structure in my life. However, none of this is an excuse for what I did. I’ve been married for 19 years and every day I’m working to be a better man for my family, seeking guidance along the way. I’m doing everything I can so I never resemble that man again. I apologize to the women I’ve hurt. I deeply regret what I did and know that it has forever impacted all of our lives.

I’m not exactly sure how this will sit with Dee Barnes and Michle’le but he has acknowledged them publicly on the matter again, so maybe it will count for something in their eyes? Ironically, Barnes was upset that the the film left out the beatings that she received but in the same breath, she says its good that it was not on screen for her to relive.
