Macklemore’s new song “Downtown” has caused a rift in the hip-hop community. The song felt the real brunt of the backlash from die-hard hip-hop fans when Mac performed the song at the MTV VMAs along with Grandmaster Caz, Melle Mel, and Kool Moe Dee. After hearing enough haters go in on social media, another veteran hip-hop icon Big Daddy Kane has spoken out in support of Macklemore. Find out what he said after the jump!

Big Daddy Kane praised Macklemore for his new song with Grandmaster Caz, Melle Mel, and Kool Moe Dee. Over 20 years ago, Kane released the song “We Wit It” featuring Chuck D, Grandmaster Caz, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Heavy D, Tito, and the Treacherous Three Kool Moe Dee, Special K, and LA Sunshine. Since seeing all the negative backlash at Mac for recruiting his fellow veterans, Kane took to Instagram to shut down the haters.

“I don’t see one artist in the game that put Melle Mel, Kool Moe Dee or Grandmaster Caz on their new song or let them perform on the VMA’s (Including Me) but people wanna have a problem with @macklemore for paying homage to them?” Kane wrote in his lengthy caption.

Macklemore has been criticized for his “white appropriation” of Hip-Hop and softening the genre. Since the Seattle native chose to reach out and work with the legends, Kane is out to silence the haters. Check out what Big Daddy Kane had to say about the matter in the gallery.
