Victor Cruz, wide receiver for the New York Giants, became an instant sensation during the 2011 NFL season. Between his athletic talents, gorgeous smile, and ritual salsa-touchdown-dance, Cruz won the hearts of men and women everywhere.

In October 2014, Cruz tore his patellar tendon and has since been working his way to a comeback. With Odell Beckham Jr., Rashad Jennings, and Rueben Randle being forceful threats to opposing defenses, the Giants were hoping to have Cruz back as the icing on the cake. Unfortunately for the New York squad, Cruz is still being ruled out for this Sunday’s home opener.

Cruz was an undrafted free-agent who signed with the Giants in 2010. He proved to be an obvious asset when he salsa danced all season long back in 2011. Finishing his first active season in the league with 1,536 yards and a Super Bowl ring, the Paterson native quickly became everyone’s favorite player and every defensive back’s favorite target.

Between 2011 and 2014, teams learned how to keep the dancing to a minimum, though Cruz was still putting on a show.

With Beckham Jr. being on everyone’s radar after the amazing one-handed catch that is still making headlines, the Giants were hoping to have Cruz back in the slot and Beckham Jr. on the outside.

That would be a duo that no defensive coordinator wants to deal with.

Cruz was thought to have been healthy enough to join the team for the season opener, but was declared ineligible due to a calf injury. He is more probable to return during week 4 against the Buffalo Bills.

Cruz commented on his return saying,

“If it were up to me, I would love to be back at some point within the next two weeks, whether it be [next] Thursday [against the Redskins] or the following game.”
