In a real life example of the pot calling the kettle black, Sheryl Underwood made disrespectful remarks about natural hair that infuriated not only the black natural hair community, but women of all races. Since then Underwood has been scorned by the masses and called an “Uncle Tom” and a “Coon.” Now she is publicly apologizing to all whom she has offended, and is doing so in her own natural afro that she debuted on live television.

During a segment of ‘The Talk’ the women discussed Heidi Klum’s decision to saved her children’s curly hair in plastic bags after haircuts. Sheryl Underwood criticized the notion calling natural hair beady and nasty.

Why would you save afro hair? You can’t weave in afro hair! No one walks into the hair place and says ‘Look here, what I need is curly, nappy, beady hair. That just seems nasty! [Sarah Gilbert’s children’s hair] is probably that beautiful, long, silky stuff. That’s not what an afro is!

After being dragged through the mud and back Underwood has realized and acknowledge her mistakes, admitting that it was a “failed attempt at humor” on such a sensitive topic for black women.

Check out her apology below.

Natural curly hair is trending big in the African American community. Many women of color are doing away with wigs and weaves and embracing their natural beauty, adapting styles more befitting of their roots. Women with natural hair are ridiculed by the world because it does not meet societal standards of beauty, so it is up to us to celebrate our natural sistas!
