This ritual occurred on Kunming airlines in China. The flight attendants involved expressed annoyance for the ritual. However, they also feared lack of acceptance from their superiors if they declined the activity.

Kunming airlines said they will take care of the incident, that it did not happen with their approval, and they are disappointed in those who participated. It also revealed that even though the stewardesses complained to their managers, nothing happened.

Though this ritual happened after-hours with no one on the plane, it can be dangerous. Most overhead compartments are made to hold 100 pounds. If the flight attendants weigh more than that, it can put unnecessary strain on the compartment. If it wears out, it could break during the flight and fall on passengers.

At the end of the day, this is a bit demeaning.
