According to witnesses, 15-year-old Tyler Deburgo was an innocent bystander watching as one of his friends was being arrested for what officers called disruptive behavior. As his back was turned to the officer, Deburgo was aggressively grabbed by his neck and thrown to the ground in what looked like a painful drop.
Officers insist that the body slammed was the result of the teen approaching the officer in defense of his friend, but a series of video footage from the incident does not support this claim. A police spokesperson had this to say about the incident,
“The officer managed to get the 17-year-old subject on the ground and was attempting to handcuff him, when the second juvenile started to approach the officer from behind. The officer saw the individual approaching him, grabbed the juvenile and used a takedown on the juvenile,”
Parents and students gathered in protest of the act of police brutality as videos from the incident went viral.
Although a very short video the slam is caught in it’s entirety. From what we see, it doesn’t look like the student threw a punch; either we missed something or the officer is lying. You can hear other bystanders’ shocked and outraged responses to the attack. What do you see? Tell us in the comments below!
This is yet another example of just how any low-wage numbskull with a uniform in our schools is just plain out of control! Over-reacting is just an excuse for bad behavior, and his behavior can only make the entire situation worse. There is simply no excuse for this kind of behavior from an adult, when it is the adults who are supposed to be setting an example. Example of what….that I can use violence and brute strength on a child? Hope the mama sues the district into the next millenium.
