Starting off small. In 2015, a citizen of the United States of America has decided to start his own “republic”. Details after the jump.

All hail Zaqistan. Zaq Landsberg, a man from the great state of New York, has began building his own sovereign nation called ‘Zaqistan’. Located on a remote piece of property in Salt Lake City, Utah, the leader of the new found nation has already got a flag, passports, a border patrol gate guarded by a giant robot sentry for the realm, and get this…a motto. The motto reads “from something to nothing”. Sound familiar?

The flag boasts red and yellow colors and waves proud among the 4 acre piece of land, 60 miles from the nearest town and 15 miles from the nearest paved road. Landsberg bought the property 10 years ago and is been working on his Zaqistanian dream ever since. He pays property taxes to Box Elder County, about 160 miles north of Salt Lake City, but likes to refer to his taxes as “tributes”.

Landsberg understands Zaqistan’s future is an artistic journey that he is willing to embark upon to see how far he can push the concepts of land ownership and sovereignty. Set with a supply bunker, Landsberg calls the land desolate and harsh, but also appealing.

Landsberg fears revealing the exact location of Zaqistan to the public, due to the fact he believes people will get lost trying to find the area. We can only assume Zaqistan will be ready to have civilians move in once it gets recognized as a real country.

Zaq to the press:

“The conceptual goal is I want it to become a real country,” stated Landsberg. “I mean, that goal is not going to happen. It’s impossible, but going through the motions, (I’m) trying to make that happen.”

Well, at least he’s realistic and optimistic at the same time.
