Sigma Alpha Epsilon is at the center of some unflattering tension, yet again; this time the Yale chapter. According to Neema Gathere, a Black female student said in a Facebook post, she and a few others were denied access into the fraternity’s Halloween party because they were not White.

Gathere writes:

“I’d just like to take a moment to give a shout-out to the member of Yale’s SAE chapter who turned away a group of girls from their party last night, explaining that admittance was on a ‘White Girls Only’ basis and a belated shout-out to the SAE member who turned me and my friends away for the same reason last year.”

Others students who also tried to gain entry recalled their experience. “We’re looking for White girls only!” one student said. Another expressed that it was not just Black girls, but Hispanic girls were also turned away.

Connected school officials have begun to speak out on the alleged incident.

“If this did happen, and it sounds as if it may (have) — and I’m looking for confirmation on that — what do we do?” Burgwell Howard, dean of Student Engagements, told the Yale Daily News. “If there is a violation of policy, then that would be something that we would refer to the Executive Committee, like any other violation of University policy.”

The SAE headquarters released a statement claiming that after a noise complaint was filed, around 11:15 p.m., no one was admitted into the party.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon believes racial intolerance should never be accepted. Recently, the national headquarters has been investigating an allegation of such intolerance at a social event hosted by our Yale University chapter. During the course of the event, law-enforcement officials directed SAE members to stop admittance and to create clear walkways outside of the house. The alleged denial of entry happened during this time period, but members adhered to the guidance of law enforcement. Following the allegation, the chapter has been cooperating with Yale University administrators, as is our expectation.

If you recall, Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s Oklahoma University chapter was caught on camera chanting racist slurs, earlier this year.

“There will never be a n*gger SAE!” you can hear in the video.
