The 1962 J-160E Gibson acoustic guitar that was used to create songs like ” P.S I Love You” and ” Love Me Do,” song by the Beatles was stolen from the late John Lennon at a Christmas Concert back in the 1960’s. The guitar was later placed in the hands of a John McCaw, a musician who bought the instrument without knowing it was stolen and has had it ever since.

After all these years the guitar has resurfaced, been auctioned off and sold for over $2.41 Million, now that’s a lot of money! And In order to make sure that there was no funny business going on, multiple measures had to be taken to prove the authenticity of the guitar. For example, matching the serial number and wood grain amongst other things.

Lennon only had the guitar for a year but many knew it would be worth millions! The auctioneer Darren Julien tells NBC news that

“It’s such an important part of Lennon’s career and Beatles history,”

He continues…

“I knew it would go over $1 million; I had no idea it would go over $2 million.”

According to NBC all the proceeds from the sale of the guitar will go to the Spirit Foundation, which is a charitable organization that was created by John Lennon and his widow, Yoko Ono.
