We all remember Sandra Bland who was found dead in her cell this summer. Bland was arrested on July 10 after she was pulled over for making a improper lane changed. Officials are trying to say that Sandra was upset that her family did not pay for her bail and decided to commit suicide. Apparently after not having her $500 bail paid, Bland was found dead.

Bland’s attorney responded to the accusations calling them “completely unnecessary and inaccurate.” Larry Rogers Jr.,the families lawyer said,

“That’s a gratuitous insult, pouring salt into the wound of an already devastated family.”

The family claims that they were trying to find a way to get Bland out. They were not just going to leave her.
Larry Simmons, who is a attorney for the southeast Texas county released a statement saying,

“Ultimately, Bland’s decision to commit suicide was hers alone, after she denied any suicidal intentions to jail personnel, and after her friends and family refused to bail her out of jail.”

Although medical examiners said that Bland hung herself using a plastic bag in her cell, her family found it hard to believe she would do something like that. The family also says that their daughter was assaulted by a trooper as she was being arrested.

According to the county, when Bland made her phone calls through the jail, no one answered and her sister told her she was not going to bail her out.

“It is apparent now that Bland’s inability to secure her release from jail — and her family and friends’ refusal to bail her out of jail — led her to commit suicide.”
