After several celebrities like Jada Pinkett-Smith and Spike Lee called for a boycott of this year’s Oscars due to a lack of diversity and others like Tyrese and 50 Cent put pressure on Chris Rock, who’s hosting the awards to step back, Whoopi Goldberg and Russell Simmons are speaking out.

During Tuesday’s episode of The View Goldberg addressed the boycott explaining, movie makers are really to blame for the lack of diversity in Hollywood not the Academy. She went into further details saying,

“It’s not that the problem is that the people who are nominated are too white. They’re not looking at a movie and saying, ‘Oh, that’s very white. I’m not going to nominate that black movie.’ They’re not sitting there like that!” she continued, “What the problem is, the people who can be helping to make movies that have blacks and Latinos and women and all that – that movie doesn’t come to you. Because the idea is that there’s no place for black movies.”

Goldberg also admitted that she will not be boycotting the Oscars, however will “bitch” all awards season about the ongoing controversy. She told her co-hosts, “Boycotting doesn’t work, and it’s also a slap in the face to Chris Rock.”

Whoopi Goldberg wasn’t the only one to stand by Chris Rock. In a recent stream of Tweets, Russell Simmons also encouraged Rock to fulfill his obligation but gave him a little advice. He said,

“I’m not going wasn’t invited lol. tell biting truthful jokes of how badly we need diversity in Hollywood management @chrisrock all love,”
