Winter Storm Jonas was no match for one New York City nurse who walked over a mile in the blizzard to care for her elderly patients at a Bronx nursing home. This nurse is now being hailed as a hero for her act of complete selflessness and her dedication to humanity.

Chantelle Diabate of Washington Heights didn’t let the first blizzard of 2016 known as Jonas stand in the way of fulfilling her commitment. The 32-year-old single mom walked over a mile in the nearly 30-inches of snow that shut down the city, among many others, to reach her patients at the Hebrew Home in Riverdale.

She described walking for nearly one hour and just thinking about how much she loved her patients the entire time.

Diabate told the NY Daily News,

I really have to love what I do make such a commitment. This is what it means to be a nurse.

Over 50 nurses went home from work Friday unable to return to the nursing facility that houses over 800 patients. Diabate was the only one to show up to work during the storm.

A nursing job is one that takes a certain level of love and dedication because each day that a nurse doesn’t show up to work a patient can be at risk. It’s amazing what Diabate did during this blizzard and her altruism will not go unnoticed!
