Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are fresh off the release of their sophomore album “This Unruly Mess I’ve Made“. During an interview with the NY Times, Macklemore was asked if anybody declined to appear on the record that they had hoped for, and that one person was mega-star Adele. Hit the jump for the reveal.

On the album’s fifth track “Growing Up”, it features British pop singer Ed Sheeran. Well that feature was originally meant for Adele, but nonetheless those shoes were filled. The song is about Mackelmore’s newest venture into fatherhood and is about his newborn daughter, Sloan.

Mack said Adele “graciously passed” on the opportunity, claiming her manager never got back to Mack & Lewis.

But why? Could it be over all the scrutiny that Macklemore faces as a massively successful white hip-hop artist during today’s uprise of racism? Or perhaps crossing the bridge into the hip-hop world is not a risk she is willing to take, given her record-breaking superstardom and limitless vocals. Or maybe she just wasn’t feelin’ the song.
