Jacobia Grimes served four years in prison for stealing socks and trousers is now facing 20 years to life for stealing candy. YES! Candy! This is really outrageous.
In New Orleans, a third conviction of “theft of goods” is considered a felony. Grimes is pleading not guilty to the crime. He is facing charges for shoplifting out of Rite-Aid, Save-A-Center and Blockbuster Video. Judge Franz Zibilich who was in charge of overseeing Grimes’s arraignment last week said,
“Isn’t this a little over the top? Twenty years to life for a Snickers bar, or two or three or four.”
It truly is outrageous.
