Officer Jason Lai resigned from his job as a cop after being caught sending and receiving racist text messages. Just last year, SFPD officers were caught sending racist texts. They also were in another controversial scandal after the death of Mario Woods. One text read, “I hate that beaner, but I think the nig is worse.” Another text read, “Indian ppl are disgusting,’ along with “Burn down walgreens and kill the bums.’
Don Nobles, Lai’s attorney claims, that those texts do “not reflective of who he is” and that “there is no evidence he carried out any of those sentiments as an officer.” The texts were taken from Lai’s phone and showed that they were being sent to some of his closest friends on the police force.
Chief Greg Suhr released a statement saying ,
“We work for the community. We work for everybody and when somebody demonstrates that they have this reprehensible character trait, we need to cut them from the body.”
He says he is just trying to get the SFPD to a better place.
