Thank God for Rap Genius. Eminem shares his thoughts on the popular song “Stan” off his Magnus Opus “The Marshall Mathers LP”. Aside from breaking down the song he gave us insight on the recording process, telling us that he had a better take of his third verse but apparently his engineer was high as hell and accidentally erased it -.-

For those that don’t know, or for those who need a reminder, here’s the classic song:

Em must’ve been pissed. I mean, look at how passionate that last verse is, it’s pretty much the climax of the song. Imagine putting your all in the studio, playing a character that (spoiler alert) is nearing his suicide, and you come out with nothing… I woulda been tight.

That’s exactly what happened to Slim. He messed up on the last 3 lines and wanted to do ONLY that section again. The engineer, though, thought that he wanted to do the whole thing over and erased it. Eminem stepped out the booth and explained everything. The engineer, in typical stoner behavior, says,

“My bad man… you wanna hit this?”

Lmfao. Don’t do drugs kids.

He also talked about the listening to the beat for the first time and instantly knowing how the song would turn out. Check out the rap genius posts:
