Pau Gasol is still undecided if he will play with Spain in the Rio Olympics but if he does go, he is planning on freezing his sperm in case he contracts the Zika virus while in Brazil.

The mosquito-borne virus has been linked to severe birth defects in infants born to women infected by Zika. Studies have shown that a male can contract the virus and give it to their partner during sex. Pau wants to be able to have the option of future babies without the worry of them being born with the defects previously mentioned.

Gasol says “freezing sperm is one of the measures I have to consider.”

He will have to decide soon if he wants to play but at his age, it’s unlikely. He has had a very good Olympic career, leading Spain to two consecutive silver medals after losing to the United States in the 2008 and 2012 finals.
