The majority of you probably had no idea who Ishmael Zamora is prior to today but now you will likely remember him more for abusing his dog than you will for what he did on the field. The Baylor wide receiver was caught kicking and beating his dog and he can thank Snapchat and a not so intelligent friend for people finding out.

The video, which is from June, was posted to Snapchat by one of his teammates who was there at the time. Why he thought sharing such a brutal video with the public would be a good thing is anyone’s guess but it got Zamora in some hot water.

Former Baylor student, Shelby Ball, said she knew she had to do something as soon as she saw the video.

“I went to authorities probably about two hours after I saw the video,” Ball said. “Dogs can’t speak for themselves… I felt like something needed to be done.”

An investigation into the matter lasted almost a month and ended with Zamora being charged with a class C misdemeanor.

For his part, Zamoma has since apologized but the way he was beating the dog with the belt repeatedly is making it hard for some people to accept the apology.

“I’m sorry for my actions. I’ve owned this dog for 20 months, he’s perfectly healthy and I love him very much. In the moment, I lost my temper trying to discipline him,” Zamora said. “I’ve been through training with a dog trainer to help me learn new potty training tips.”

Baylor has said they will discipline him but didn’t say exactly what that would entail. Let’s hope he really has learned a lesson. You can’t beat a dog like that and blame it on trying to potty train him.
