The Weeknd was first heard by the masses when Drake had him on “Crew Love” back in 2011 for his Take Care album. Abel was and is always grateful for that, despite their relationship looking a little rocky to the public after he didn’t sign to Drizzy’s record label OVO. The Weeknd now clarifies where he and Drake stand after all the two’s success in last 5 years.

In a new Beats 1 interview, The Weeknd says he and Drake have a good relationship despite what it seems:

“He came in as my big bro and showed the world what I could do. From then on, he’s always been supporting me and I’ve always been supporting him. Behind the scenes, we’re still very close but it’s cool that the world can see us doing our own thing. OVOXO will always be there.”

Good to know the two individual mega stars are on good terms. He also went into how much of his first album he sacrificed for Drake:

“I gave up almost half of my album. It’s hard. I will always be thankful—if it wasn’t for the light he shined on me, who knows where I’d be. And everything happens for a reason. You never know what I would say if this success wasn’t in front of me now.”

Although previously, Drake went on to say that he and Abel’s relationship really wasn’t looking good, but it’s all good now:

“We’ve both had our moments where we’ve maybe felt a way and taken it maybe a little left, but I can sit here and say I have nothing but love for everybody over there. I loved watching last year. It made me super happy. Well deserved.”

During the Beats 1 interview, Weeknd even left the option open for a possible Drake/Weeknd collab album with a “Maybe: why not?”
