There is definitely no sophomore jinx for Kendrick Lamar! The arrival of his second album To Pimp A Butterfly has him perched atop the Billboard 200 for the very first time with a whopping 363k units sold, after his first album, 2012’s good kid, m.A.A.d city, debuted and peaked at number 2, selling 241,000 copies. This number includes SPS (sales plus streaming,) but traditional sales comprise 89% of its overall unit total at 324k. The album was only announced on March 6, then had a surprise release a week early, so once again, this new “surprise” formula proves successful! Check out the full top 10 below.
Billboard’s Top 10 Album Sales, Week Ending 3/15/15 … Empire Soundtrack Debuts At #1!
FOX has a huge hit on their hands with the new show Empire, and its soundtrack is proving to be equally as successful! Just released last week, the Empire soundtrack tops the Billboard 200 today with 130,000 units sold. It’s the first TV soundtrack to debut at number 1 since 2010, when three different Glee albums arrived atop the list. The Empire soundtrack features contributions from the newbies in their cast such as everyone’s fav Jussie Smollett, as well as established artists among the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Estelle, Rita Ora, Juicy J and Courtney Love (all of which have acted on the show.) Coming in behind the Empire soundtrack is Madonna with her new album Rebel Heart at number 2, while both Drake and Big Sean remain in the top 10 this week as well. Check out the full list below!
Billboard’s Top 10 Album Sales, Week Ending 3/8/15 … Big Sean & Drake Remain In The Top 10
In his fourth week on the Billboard charts, Drake comes in at number 4 with If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late, selling another 73k copies. The album has now sold 721k copies in total. Big Sean is holding strong too, though, and sits at number 6 with another 58k sold of Dark Sky Paradise. Chris Brown and Tyga dropped a bit lower with Fan Of A Fan, and come in at number 21 with 24k sold. Get the full top 10 below!
Billboard’s Top 10 Album Sales, Week Ending 3/1/15 … Congrats To Big Sean On His FIRST #1!
It took 3 tries, but Big Sean has finally achieved a number one album, thanks to Dark Sky Paradise moving 173k in its first week. Both of Sean’s previous albums, 2011’s Finally Famous and 2013’s Hall of Fame, debuted at number 3, moving 87k and 72k respectively. As for Chris Brown and Tyga with Fan Of A Fan, they debuted at number 7 with 67k sold, which honestly is a pretty great number… However, the fact that Drake‘s third week of If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late has him 3 spots higher than them at number 4 with 99k probably stings a bit for Breezy. First Week Sales Predictions For Chris Brown x Tyga’s ‘Fan Of A Fan’ + Big Sean’s ‘Dark Sky Paradise’
This week, Chris Brown and Tyga released their collaborative album Fan Of A Fan, while Big Sean released his third studio album, Dark Sky Paradise. The first week sales predictions for both projects are now in, and while things are looking great for Sean, Breezy and T-Raww aren’t expected to fare quite as well. HDD reports that Fan Of A Fan is expected to move around 50k-55k (70k-75k with SPS,) while Dark Sky Paradise is looking at 120k-130k (140k-150k with SPS.) Great number for Sean Don, but I thought Chris and Tyga would do bigger numbers! What do you think of the estimates? Let us know in the comments!
Billboard’s Top 10 Album Sales, Week Ending 2/22/15 … Drake Remains In The Top 3
Though he’s been knocked out of the top spot by Imagine Dragons’ new album Smoke + Mirrors, Drake is still sitting comfortably in the top 3 for the second week with his mixtape, If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late. After debuting at number 1 with only 4 days worth of sales, the project comes in at number 2 this week with another 187k sold. He’s been certified gold and it hasn’t even been two weeks! Crazy!
