NBA: Adam Silver Says Kevin Durant Signing With Warriors is Not ‘Ideal’ & Shows Need to Change CBA

When Kevin Durant decided to join the Golden State Warriors during this year’s free agency, many people considered them a “super-team” practically guaranteed to win an NBA championship.  The league doesn’t have much parity as it’s pretty much considered a two-team league with many thinking the Cleveland Cavaliers and Warriors will meet in the NBA Finals for the third consecutive year.  NBA commissioner Adam Silver expressed his concern on the matter.

The NBA’s new $24 billion television deal has a lot of players speaking up about their salaries and the collective bargaining agreement.  During the 2011 lockout that yielded the present day CBA, the owners claimed to be losing money and the players made a lot of concessions on the division of revenue.  Now that NBA teams are more valuable than ever coupled with the new TV deal, players aren’t trying to hear that story anymore.

Yesterday the NBA announced a new mega television deal with ESPN and TNT for nine years, worth around $24 billion.  This television deal coupled with the fact that the Clippers sold for $2 billion means NBA teams are more valuable than ever and the NBA players aren’t trying to hear the owners whining about losing money like they did during the last CBA negotiations.  Both sides can opt-out of the current collective bargaining agreement following the 2016-17 season and are expected to given the new circumstances.  Questions now arise if they can come to a new agreement and some think a lockout is possible.


NBA: The Miami Heat May Have to Break Up The “Big 3”

We all vividly remember the NBA lockout that shortened the 2011-12 season.  It dragged on and on as the two sides argued mostly about money, mainly the owners wanting a larger portion.  Also many small market teams wanted more parity within the league rather than just being outspent by the big market teams.  In order to achieve this the luxury tax had to be raised.  Read more after the jump.
