‘Straight Outta Compton’ Will Be #1 Again This Weekend…Just Not In Compton

Straight Outta Compton exploded in the box offices last weekend, raking in an unprecedented $60.2 million and landing at number one for its debut. Looks like it wasn’t just beginner’s luck, either, as early forecasts predict they’ll easily take the number one spot again this weekend! The N.W.A. biopic is expected to bring in around $30 million in its second week, as they’ve added an additional 243 theaters in the U.S. to meet exhibitor demand. Dr. Dre’s New Album Debuted At #2 On The Billboard 200

After a sixteen-year hiatus, Dr. Dre returned to the Billboard charts last week with the release of Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre. The follow-up to 1999’s 2001 debuted at number two on this week’s Billboard 200 chart, moving an impressive 295k units. Of that number, 276k were physical album sales, while the remainder come from streaming services and single sales. Also notable on the Billboard 200 this week is the sparked interest in Kendrick Lamar and N.W.A. since the release of both Dre’s album and the Straight Outta Compton film. Kendrick’s To Pimp A Butterfly saw a surge in sales this week and jumped up to the number 29 spot with another 12.5k in sales, while N.W.A. continues to jump up the charts with their 1988 release, Straight Outta Compton. In anticipation of the film, the album returned to the charts three weeks ago at #173. Since then, it jumped to 97, and now this week appears at the number 30 spot. With the movie having just come out this past Friday, it’s likely the album will be even higher on next week’s chart. Pretty dope! In the meantime, check out the full top 10 for this week below.
