Congrats! ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Is Now The Highest Grossed Movie By A Black Director

It looks like the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton has been breaking all types of records since it hit the theaters over the summer! The movie based on the legendary rap group from South Central, L.A. has now become the highest grossed movie by an African-American director in FILM HISTORY. The movie recently surpassed the $160.1 million dollar mark since it has been in theaters. I’m sure the director F. Gary Gray is more than happy with what he was able to accomplish with the successful biopic. This has definitely put him on the map as one of the most accomplished black directors in Hollywood!

After much anticipation and speculation Vin Diesel shared a huge announcement with fans about the up coming Fast and Furious film. He previous dished that there would be three more films to come but there was no word on plot and directors. The N.W.A. biopic has officially wrapped, and Dr. Dre celebrated this weekend with a huge bash at his California crib. Of course all of the film’s actors were there, and also spotted in the photos thus far were the late Eazy-E‘s family, Xzhibit and DJ Mustard. (That doesn’t mean other big names weren’t there, I just haven’t come across those photos yet.) Straight Outta Compton hits theaters August 2015. Check out more pics from the party below.

(Photos) The NWA Biopic Cast Has Been Finalized! Check Out Who’s Playing Who!

There are three people that must agree to everything on the upcoming NWA biopic “Straight Outta Compton” (Cube, Dre and Eazy-E’s widow Tomica Wright,) so it’s been a LONG time coming (five years and four different writers) but finally, the main roles have been casted and the production is about to be under way! As previously reported, Ice Cube’s 23-year-old son O’Shea Jackson Jr. will be playing his father. Today, we’ve learned that classically trained actor Marcus Callender will play Dr. Dre, while the even lesser-known Jason Mitchell will play Eazy-E. Both actors have had bit parts in a couple of TV shows, but nothing major at all, so this will definitely be huge for them both. Dre was lobbying for Fruitvale Station actor Michael B. Jordan to play him, but he had a prior commitment with a Fantastic Four reboot. F. Gary Gray (who’s previously worked with Cube on Friday) will hold directorial duties, and principal photography is set to begin in less than two months. I can’t WAIT to see this!

Biopics Race To The Box Office: N.W.A. VS Tupac

For years there have been many rumors as well as many attempts by television networks to depict the biopic story of West Coast rapper and legend, the late Tupac Shakur. Back in February film director John Singleton inked a deal with Morgan Creek Productions that would make him the visionary in charge of bringing Tupac’s life and works to the big screen. Production is slated to begin in June or July of this year. Sounds great huh? Well..
