Popular MTV Host Sam Sarpong Dies At Age 40

Sam Sarpong, model and former host of MTV’s Yo Momma, has died at the age of 40. It has been reported Sapong died Monday after jumping off a bridge in Pasadena, CA. Monday afternoon, Pasadena law enforcement and fire officials responded to calls of a man on a bridge. According to police reports after confirming that the man was Sarpong family members were called to the scene “provided background regarding his emotional state.” The police statement read, “Tragically, after approximately seven hours of communication, the male jumped from the bridge. He was pronounced deceased by Pasadena Fire Paramedics at 3:52 p.m.” Read more below.


Take Two: Chris Rock Will Host The 2016 Academy Awards

Chris Rock made history as the first black host of the Academy Awards back in 2005. The beloved comedian announced today he is returning for round two, and will be hosting this year’s telecast. He made the announcement via Twitter, stating “Look who’s back #Oscars” The Academy producers and CEO praised Rock for his talent and credentials calling him and industry MVP. Oscars producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin said, “Comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, documentarian — he’s done it all,” adding, “He’s going to be a phenomenal Oscar host!” “Chris may be best known as a stand-up comic, but we think of him as a creative innovator in many other ways. He is unafraid in his artistry,” said Academy CEO Dawn Hudson. You can catch Chris Rock hosting the awards when it airs on February 28th.


Erykah Badu Will Host The 2015 Soul Train Awards

Today CENTRIC announced that the 2015 Soul Train Awards will be hosted by the ever-fabulous Erykah Badu. The singer-song writer will be celebrating R&B legends and the new generation in Las Vegas on Nov. 6th. This year’s nominees include Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Tyrese, Trey Songz, Chris Brown, Fetty Wap, Big Sean and many more. Being honored this year with the Legends Award is Babyface and Jill Scott will also receive first-ever Lady of Soul award.
