The Oscars were last week and host Chirs Rock had a lot of jokes. This years Oscars was quite controversial due to the fact that there were no black acting nominees. Many Black Actors and Actress protested the award show including Jada Pinkett-Smith and Chris Rock had a few jokes for her. Lol! Incase you were wondering, Jada Pinkett Smith still is not attending this year’s Oscars. TMZ photogs caught with her in Flint, Michigan earlier this week where she met with the Mayor over the current water crisis. When asked how she felt about The Motion Picture Academy’s decision to add more black voters, she addressed the fact that The Academy still just doesn’t get it. According to Jada, adding black voters doesn’t mean that more black actors and films will get the credit they deserve. She explained,

“Of course I think that it’s necessary but I’m also hoping that the Academy understands that it’s not just about having more black voters to give the connotation that black people vote black, but that the Academy as a whole, we all need to as human beings get to know each other.”

She broke down her view using Idris Elba’s “Beasts of No Nation” as an example. Check it out below.

Last month, Jada Pinkett Smith called for a boycott of the 88th Academy Awards in response to the #OscarsSoWhite controversy. She was immediately backed by her husband Will, and other Hollywood names like Spike Lee. However many felt, Jada’s call for diversity had a lot to do with her husband not being nominated for his outstanding performance in the ‘Concussion’ film. In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw, Will Smith cleared up these accusations saying, his wife still would have boycotted the Oscars, even if he was nominated. Read more below.

After being slammed by her husband’s former co-star Janet Hubert best known as ‘Aunt Viv’ on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Jada Pinkett Smith is now speaking out. Hubert recently made a video calling out the actress and her husband after Jada called for a boycott of the Oscars.  In exclusive footage obtained by ET, Jada Pinkett Smith said she wishes, “African-Americans can find a way to get along and step together.” Check out the video below.

Since the reveal of this year’s Oscar nominations, critics of the 88th Annual Awards show have slammed the Academy for their lack of diversity. After actors like Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike like called for a boycott of the awards, the Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs released a statement about the controversy. She wrote a positive message with hope for the future saying,

“I would like to acknowledge the wonderful work of this year’s nominees. While we celebrate their extraordinary achievements, I am both heartbroken and frustrated about the lack of inclusion…”

Since the release of Issacs statement on behalf of the Academy, Jada Pinkett Smith, who has been one of the more vocal critics throughout this controversy reached out via Twitter with a response about the Academy’s statement. Check out more below.
