Jahi McMath Released From Hospital To Parents After On-Going Fight For Her Life

After an Oakland hospital declared 13-year-old Jahi McMath brain-dead after experiencing trauma from a tonsil surgery, her parents were not ready to let their little girl go just yet. Although both the judge and doctors from Children’s Hospital of Oakland concluded that there was no saving McMath, the 8th grader’s parents were able to get the same judge to extend the deadline to 5 p.m. (8 p.m. ET) on January 7, 2014 before they pull the plug. The hospital has granted McMath’s family permission to transport their daughter to an undisclosed location. However, they made it clear that the hospital is not responsible for any mishaps Jahi may undergo after leaving the premises. According to the doctors, there is a huge chance that the girl’s heart may stop during the move after she’s no longer hooked up to the ventilator.

Family Gets Deadline Extended In Court To Keep Hospital From Pulling Plug On Daughter

After 13-year-old Jahi McMath underwent tonsil surgery, she woke up bleeding non-stop and went into cardiac arrest. Shortly after, the California hospital pronounced the girl brain dead. However, her family has been fighting to stop the Children’s Hospital of Oakland from pulling the plug, stating that their daughter is not dead. Both the judge and doctors came to the decision that there was no possible way for the 8th grader to come back to life and granted a 5 p.m. ET cut-off time for the plugs to be pulled. However, the same Alameda County Superior Court Judge Evelio Grillo ended up extending the deadline to 5 p.m. (8 p.m. ET) on January 7, 2014.
