NBA: James Harden Compared Himself to Steve Nash in Pitch to Get Free Agents to Sign With Rockets

The Houston Rockets struck out on Atlanta Hawks free agents Al Horford and Kent Bazemore so they then turned their sights to New Orleans Pelicans’ free agents Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon.  They flew to Los Angeles and visited Anderson’s home in Hermosa Beach. After a nearly two-hour afternoon meeting with Anderson they locked him in with a four-year, $80 million deal.  He then called his close friend and teammate Gordon, and set up a meeting to have him join the Rockets as well.  The Rockets sales pitch had an interesting angle.

Dwight Howard and James Harden’s relationship started off promising when Howard decided to sign with Houston after leaving the Lakers but it didn’t take long for reality to set in for both players. The expectations of a championship never materialized and with the exception of one successful season which saw the Rockets lose to the Warriors in the western conference finals two season ago, there really was nothing else good to speak of. The relationship between both guys was clearly strained after a while, which was something Howard spoke on during his appearance on the “Mike & Mike” show.

James Harden recently agreed to a four-year, $118 million contract extension to stay with the Houston Rockets.  Though they have “The Beard”, it’s not nearly enough to contend against the firepower the Golden State Warriors have including their latest addition and Harden’s former teammate, Kevin Durant.  Harden however said he’s not worried.

James Harden is going to be in Houston for a while and he will be handsomely compensated to do so. The team made a surprise announcement today, telling the media they agreed on a contract extension that will keep him in H-Town until at least the end of the 2019-20 season.

The roster for Team USA basketball for the Rio Olympics is starting to look real sketchy. Most of the biggest stars in the NBA have decided to pass on taking part in the games, leaving us with the best of the rest type of squad. In a bit of good news, DeMarcus Cousins was confirmed yesterday that he made the team and so far is the only player to officially be confirmed. Just yesterday, both Russell Westbrook and James Harden announced they would skip the games, joining Steph Curry, Chris Paul, Anthony Davis, LaMarcus Aldridge and others.
