NBA: Nets’ Mikhail Prokhorov Pens Open Letter on Lessons He Learned; #1 “Some Things Money Can’t Buy”

Mikhail Prokhorov is embarking on his sixth year as the owner of the Brooklyn Nets.  This season they’ve fired both the coach Lionel Hollins and general manager Billy King, as they look for a fresh start.  Reflecting over his past mistakes, Prokhorov wrote an open letter to the fans expressing the eight lessons he learned.  One of them was extremely important, the billionaire learned that money can’t buy everything, including his attempt to practically spend his way to an NBA championship.

The Brooklyn Nets are a total mess right now and their owner is a bit on the delusional side.  On Sunday it was announced that coach Lionel Hollins and general manager Billy King were fired amongst others and almost all of the firings were learned via news release.  For a while it was unclear who was even in charge in Brooklyn.  Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov made his first public remarks and they were a doozy.

Mikhail Prokhorov set a five-year maximum for a championship when he bought the Nets in 2010.  He even pledged to get married if his team didn’t win a title in that span.  He went all out in 2012 trying to build a championship team but just ended up with the most expensive payroll + luxury tax in NBA history.  And now it’s been five years and all Brooklyn has to show for their efforts is winning one playoff series.  So what about the Prokhorov’s pledge?

Russian billionaire and Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov held a press conference on Wednesday prior to the Nets game against the Atlanta Hawks at the Barclays Center.  Prokhorov reiterated that he is not selling the Nets but did admit he has been approached by 10 individuals interested in purchasing a minority share in the team.

Mikhail Prokhorov was reportedly working with a bank to sell the Brooklyn Nets but it hasn’t netted any big offers like the $2 billion Steve Ballmer put up for the Los Angeles Clippers so Prokhorov has ended the deal.

Mikhail Prokhorov went all out to the tune of $144 million to try and win an NBA championship in the 2013-14 season and now he’s reportedly done with his new venture.  The Brooklyn Nets are for sale.
