10-year-old Legend Preston, a fifth grader from Newark, NJ was chased with shot guns by local police after they mistook him for a a robbery suspect. Neighbors who saw the account happening shielded around Preston to protect him.

As part of the Future Project initiative, which helps bring some brightness into the lives of inner city children with some rough upbringings, Erykah Badu surprised students at Malcolm X Shabazz High School in Newark, NJ this week. Appearing in the cafeteria as the kids entered for what they thought would be a normal lunch, Ms. Badu gave them quite the treat with a live performance of “On and On”, her remix of Kanye’s “Real Friends” and a even a preview of some unreleased music! Newark, NJ born and raised actor Michael B. Jordan was presented with the key to Brick City Tuesday (November 17th). Jordan received a key to the city from Mayor Ras Baraka at the Newark Citiplex where Jordan was also hosting a special screening of his latest film, Creed, which features Sylvester Stallone. At last, Surf has finally released both the official artwork and the release date for his latest body of work which he held a private listening party for at Born Fly in NYC recently to give fans a little taste of what he has in store for them.

On Tuesday night (September 29th), New Jersey native Tsu Surf held a private listening concert for his long-anticipated album entitled NEWARK in New York City. The event, which was sponsored by Born Fly and Effen Vodka, was filled with die-hard fans, prestige media personalities from various outlets and a bunch of different rappers/artists such as Manolo Rose, Hell Rell, Emanny, Chad B, Cascio and Luccie Fontane, to just name a few. With music provided by DJ Shy and hosting by Pretty Lou and Hynaken, it was an extremely enjoyable industry networking event with good vibes all around (plus free LQ and food so who can go wrong with that?) Surf put on an intimate concert for the crowd, performing the tracks off of his NEWARK project that has fans going crazy with anticipation for its release. Although there is no set release date yet for the project, it should be out within the next few weeks on iTunes. Check out a full video recap of the event below!

The sound of gunfire could be heard Sunday, in the South Ward section of Newark; as the Newark Knights motorcycle club gathered for it’s annual Mother’s Day Blessing event. Authorities say one person is dead, and at least three are wounded.
