With all that’s going on in Baltimore, it’s so dope to see the positivity shining throughout. The Baltimore chapter of ‘Big Brothers Big Sisters of America’ has received a staggering 3,000 percent increase in mentor applicants in just a few days! This surge, the organization said, is the biggest in their entire history! “To have people reach out and say, ‘I want to make a commitment for the next year of my life spending every week with a young man or woman,’ is blowing my mind actually,” President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake, Terry Hickey, told NBC News.

Giving Back: Chance The Rapper & Sway Help Raise $100,000 For Chicago’s Get Schooled Program

I love reporting stuff like this! Chance The Rapper teamed up with his brother Taylor Bennett, Sway Calloway and more, and raised $100,000 for schools in his hometown of Chicago through their Get Schooled program! The money will go towards new technology (computers, iPads, etc) to help 6 elementary schools with their digital learning programs. “The city is focused on helping students prepare for college, and The Get Schooled, Get Connected Challenge did just that,” Chicago’s Mayor Rahm Emanuel said at the event, which was held on Martin Luther King Day. Get Schooled has already helped 22,000 Chicago households with internet service since the foundation started. More info available here!

(Photos) Jadakiss Surprises 50 Families At Women’s Shelter For The Holidays

Last week, rapper Jadakiss popped up at Jersey City‘s York Street Project shelter for homeless women and children at their first annual holiday party and toy drive, and surprised 50 women and their families – much to their delight. “Whenever you are able to be a part of giving back to anybody less fortunate, or whenever you are able to give back during this time of year, it’s a beautiful thing,” Jadakiss said. “I’m fortunate to be a part of this, it’s a no-brainer. When you can bring a smile to a baby’s face or a toddler or a single mother, or just somebody in need, that’s always a beautiful thing.” Kiss teamed up with McDonald’s of Grand Street in Jersey City, which held a toy drive in preparation for the holiday party, receiving nearly 3,000 toys. Each of the 50 children who live at York Street were able to choose a few toys of their own, while the remainders were donated to Toys for Tots. More pics from the day in the gallery!

(Photos + Video) Rich Homie Quan Gives Out Over 100 Turkeys In Atlanta

Rich Homie Quan was another generous celebrity on the Thanksgiving holiday, teaming up with his label T.I.G. Entertainment for the “Feed The Streets” campaign in his hometown of Atlanta. The 2-day turkey giveaway went down at DTLR stores in the South Dekalb Mall and Camp Creek, with Quan, T.I.G. CEO G. “Fly” Henry and their team handing out over 100 turkeys to families in need, as well as autographed #FeedtheStreets posters to the hundreds of fans who showed up. “We’re out here feeding the streets, giving back to the community and supporting the same people who support us,” Fly said. “We just want to let everybody know we appreciate what ya’ll do for us all year long.” “It’s always better to give back, especially when you’ve been blessed and put in a position to help others,” Rich Homie Quan added. The “Walk Thru” rapper also took time to visit several local schools in the running to win a free Rich Homie Quan performance based on how many canned food items each school donated.
