The Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Detroit Pistons 106-101, taking a 1-0 lead in the first round playoff series. After the first quarter of that game, during a sideline interview, Lisa Salters referred to Stan Van Gundy previously talking to his players about their emotions and not getting frustrated; she then asked him how are they doing with that. SVG said a couple calls upset them and then said, “LeBron is LeBron. They’re not going to call offensive fouls on him, he gets to do what he wants. They have to understand that.” Later during the presser Van Gundy tried to backtrack off those comments but it was too late, it was already said. Today the NBA announced they fined Van Gundy $25,000 for criticizing the referees.

The firing of David Blatt caught everyone off guard yesterday. That is everyone except some people within the organization who apparently have been planning for it. Lebron continues to deny he had any involvement and you can believe that if you want but fact is seeing a coach of a first place team get fired will never make sense. That was not lost on Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy, who did not hold back when speaking of the situation.

Howard talked about numerous topics including asking for a coaching change and demanding a trade in Orlando. He also spoke on his relationship with Kobe Bryant before and during his time in Los Angeles as they relationship deteriorated.

Lately it seems like every basketball star has a documentary. In addition to Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant, Houston Rockets star Dwight Howard has a doc of his own coming out. It’s called “Dwight Howard: In The Moment” and it premieres November 12th at 8 pm ET on EPIX. This clip released focuses on how Howard throws himself into the community and charity work. His former coach on the Orlando Magic, Stan Van Gundy sings his praises, as well as his agent. It’s nice to see there’s no bad blood between Howard and Van Gundy after the drama in Orlando.
