Album Release Date: Chance The Rapper – Surf

Update: Well, just as soon as we got the release date for “Surf”, Chance the Rapper’s brother, Taylor Bennet reveals the possible cover art. “N-E Day Now,” he tweets out along with an attached water paint-like cover. Check it out in the gallery after the jump. Original: Chance The Rapper is back on his feet following his brief health scare last week, and reportedly made a major announcement during his show last night at Michigan State University – his second album Surf is coming in less than a week! “From @chancetherapper himself, his 2nd album “Surf” drops in less than a week,” @maximumjohnston tweeted, while another concert goer @grantgifford66 wrote, “Chance just said #surf drops in less than a week [eyeball emojis]” The project was announced last fall with a 2014 release date but clearly never came, and Chance himself later told comedian Hannibal Buress that Surf would be “very much so a Beyoncé kind of thing” … aka, a surprise. Let’s hope he keeps true to his word!

It is the era of the surprise album, and I am so here for it! Just as he gears up to kick off his world tour this weekend at Coachella, Tyler, the Creator has revealed that his third studio album will drop next week. Did Amazon Accidentally Reveal A$AP Rocky’s Album Release Date?

A$AP Rocky has been crafting the follow-up to his 2013 debut Long.Live.A$AP. for some time now, and if Amazon’s recent listing is right…we’ll be getting At.Long.Last.A$AP. in less than two months! The online retailer’s UK site is currently listing a May 26 release for A.L.L.A., which is right on par with the “surprise releases” artists have been gravitating toward since Beyoncé started the trend in December of 2013, as the date is only 7 weeks out.

(Photos) Could Kendrick Lamar Be Pulling A Beyoncé?

Kendrick Lamar may very well be pulling a Beyoncé and dropping a surprise album. A customer caught the above photo while at a Walmart in Canada (I assume, since his Twitter location is “Somewhere in Canada,”) listing K.dot with an upcoming release date of January 27. With “i” doing quite well on radio and the hardcore fanbase that he has, this would likely fare VERY well for Kendrick. He also has always made it well known that he’s not very interested in all the hoopla of the music business, so a no frills, no promo album rollout plan would really be the ideal plan for him.

(Photos) Don’t Be Fooled: That “Surprise” DMX Album Is Not Official!

Yesterday afternoon, news hit the web that just like Beyoncé, J. Cole, D’Angelo and more, the one-and-only DMX would be the latest artist to release a “surprise” album. According to the reports, Redemption of the Beast, dropping January 13, was an official release from the Dog, making for his eighth solo release. The 16-track album includes features from Freeway and Jannyce, but a quick glance at the tracklist shows tracks that have been available on the web since 2008! And the cover art? I think my little brother made it in Microsoft Paint. Well fear not, X fans – this is not official at all! Taking to Instagram, his Ruff Ryders brother Swizz Beatz cleared up the rumors:

When the DOG come back you will know 100% !!!!!! Stop the B.S fake albums!!!!!!!! Fyi We Cooking Fire

He later added: “I see a lot of rapper but I know only 1 X!!!!!!! #nofakealbums We Got Fire,” so at least we know there will be new, OFFICIAL music coming from X soon! And with Swizzy on the beat, it should be fire!

In A League Of Her Own: Harvard Is Releasing A Case Study On Beyoncé’s Surprise Album

We can all recall where we were when Beyoncé dropped her self-titled album last year. No promo, no notice, nothing! We were all shocked – it takes a lot to #1 hide all that from the world and #2 make such a ballsy move like that when releasing an album. Harvard also took notice! See what they plan to do after the jump…
