NCAA: UCLA Hires New Mexico’s Steve Alford As New Head Coach In a Controversial Decision

Steve Alford has agreed to become the coach of the UCLA Bruins, the school announced Saturday. The decision ends a weeklong search to replace Ben Howland; a search that was uncharastically difficult considering the caliber of the school.  Read more after the jump.

The 15th-seeded Florida Golf Coast University Eagles tried to continue their amazing cinderella story last night when they took on the 3rd-seeded Florida Gators in a historical Sweet Sixteen NCAA tourney showdown.  Unfortunately for the Eagles the Gators proved to be too much and won the game 62-50, but one Eagle still won.  Read more after the jump.

On Friday President Obama had a speaking engagement in Miami, Florida.  Everyone knows the president is a big basketball fan and keeps up with the happenings around the league and college ball.  Obama is also a Chicago native and was sure to mention the Bulls ending the Miami Heat’s win streak at 27 games.  He didn’t want to get on the Florida’s bad side so he also mentioned the great season the Miami Hurricanes had as well the Florida Gators and the cinderella story of FGCU.  Check it out after the jump.

NCAA: Louisville Defeats Syracuse in Championship Game as We Say Goodbye to The Big East

Bittersweet game as the Louisville Cardinals and the Syracuse Orange faced off in the Big East championship game.  It’s the last game with the Big East in the form we’ve come to know and love.  The Cardinals came back from a woeful first half and 16-point deficit to win.  Read more after the jump.


NCAA: With Syracuse, Pittsburgh & Notre Dame Leaving Check Out Who’s Joining The Big East

The once highly notable Big East is considered dead by some once Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Notre Dame leave for the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) next year.  While their top dog schools are leaving a couple others are entering that could add back some notoriety.  Read more after the jump.
