Benedict Cumberbatch Calls Black Actors “Colored” Then Apologizes For It

12-Years A Slave actor, Benedict Cumberbatch put himself in a position that may be hard to pull back from. “I think as far as colored actors go, it gets really difficult in the UK, and I think a lot of my friends have had more opportunities here [in the U.S.] than in the UK, and that’s something that needs to change,” Cumberbatch said to PBS talk show host, Tavis Smiley. The term “colored” being a possible game-changer for the English native. This slipping in the midst of him speaking on inequality among black actors in the U.K. Cumberbatch has since felt major guilt for the term and release a statement of apology. Talk-show host Chelsea Handler always seems to be involved in some sort of controversy. After the Sunday night’s Academy Awards, she’s under fire yet again. During the award show, Handler was tweeting about the Oscars via Huffington Post’s official Twitter account. Basically the whole night, she was cracking jokes on all of the black winners such as Lupita Nyong’o, Sidney Poitier and many more. Of course the jokes were tacky, but I’m pretty sure that’s just Chelsea’s whole demeanor and that she meant no harm. ’12 Years A Slave’ is the true story of a freed New Yorker Solomon Northup, who was kidnaped and sold into slavery. Northup, played by actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, was tricked into playing a violin gig in a borderline state during slavery and was kidnapped by the alleged promoters of the event. Once in the south, the freed New Yorker was stripped of his identity and sold into slavery, where he remain a slave for 12 years in Louisiana. I think this movie sends a very strong message to people of every race. It provides a true look at America’s past, an understanding to our new generation of their ancestors, and an answer the root of disfunction in our society. (Video) Brad Pitt Speaks Out On His New Film “12 Years A Slave”!!!!

“12 Years A Slave” has been one of the most anticipated projects this year, from the renown actor and creator Brad Pitt. He premiered the film based on the true story of a free man played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, sold into slavery in pre civil war times Louisiana, during the Toronto International Film Festival. The film got an emotional reception as audience members fought back tears during the intense film.
