Billboard Breakdown: Shawn Mendes Knocks Drake Out Of #1

Shawn Mendes’ sophomore album, Illuminate, debuts at number one this week, knocking Drake out of the top once again. This is the second number one for Shawn, making him one of only five artists to do so at such a young age (18.) The other four are Justin Bieber (17), Miley Cyrus (14), Hilary Duff (17) and LeAnn Rimes (15). D.R.A.M. Just Knocked Drake Out Of THIS Top Spot

D.R.A.M. now has the number one rap song in the country with the Lil Yachty-assisted, “Broccoli.” In an interesting twist, the VA native knocked Drake’s “Too Good” from the spot – and many say Drake stole the newcomer’s thunder last year with the release of “Hotline Bling,” which was a little too similar to D.R.A.M.’s breakout single, “Cha Cha.”
